Fair Design: 111 Navy Chair Emeco

A chair made from recycled PET bottles? Yes, there is such a thing! The new 111 Navy Chair is a joint product from Emeco and the Coca-Cola Company.

The chair consists of 60% to 65% PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and, for reinforcement, 30% to 35% lacquer and fibreglass. The Coca-Cola Company's contribution comes from its recycling plant in South Carolina. In this particular case, the idea of recycling has been completely redefined and Emeco has created something completely new and beautiful from old, no longer usable waste. The 111 Navy Chair is a true work of art in every respect!

Emeco - design chairs for eternity

Emeco produces chairs in America, often by hand and mostly from recycled materials. The guiding principle is: for eternity! What began in 1944 with the production of chairs for warships can now be found in restaurants, hotels, offices and also in the private sector. The Electrical Machine and Equipment Company (Emeco) was founded by Wilton Carlyle Dinges in 1944, and the Second World War was the big boost for the young company. And so the Navy Chair was created - a chair that could withstand the American Navy. What works in a demanding environment works everywhere. So it wasn't long before architects and designers recognised the potential and used Emeco everywhere.

Material and format

The chair is made of 65% recycled PET and 35% glass fibre. It is 39 cm wide, 50 cm deep and 86 cm high. Its seat height is 46 cm.
