USM Haller—A Success Story
Elegant design combined with technical perfection—a standard that USM Haller has held itself to for many years. What began in 1885 as a hardware store and locksmith’s shop evolved, through the collaboration between Paul Schärer and architect Fritz Haller, into the high-quality USM modular furniture system, which went into mass production in 1969.
The well-known design is based on a furniture concept built around steel systems that can be adapted freely and flexibly. Today, the manufacturer’s portfolio includes simple and clean solutions that stand out for their distinctive design.
What makes the system so special? The so-called USM connection point, which allows for maximum flexibility thanks to multiple threaded holes and was patented in 1965.
The furnishing of the Rothschild Bank in Paris in 1969 marked the beginning of USM Haller’s success story, which continues to this day. The potential of this innovative furniture system was quickly recognized, and over the years it achieved worldwide fame. In 2001, the USM Haller furniture system was even added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
