Combining career and family – The life of Marie Axelsen

Marie Axelsen was born on June 30, 1916, in Randers, Denmark , and grew up right next to a hair salon. She developed a passion for hairdressing at an early age and began her apprenticeship at 14. After working in Uppsala, Sweden, to earn money for her own salon, Marie eventually returned to Randers and opened her own hair salon in 1939 .

At a time when women were primarily housewives, Marie persevered and forged a successful entrepreneurial career , combining her family life with her own salon. She ran the salon for an impressive 65 years before retiring at the age of 83.
