Which leather is used for the Eames Lounge Chair?
Vitra uses exclusively high-quality Premium F leather for the Eames Lounge Chair. This smooth cowhide with a fine grain and subtle sheen is sustainably tanned using olive tree leaves. The result is a particularly eco-friendly, durable and easy-care leather that meets the highest quality standards.
Why are there two versions of the Eames Lounge Chair – a lower and a higher one?
Vitra offers the Eames Lounge Chair in two sizes: the original dimensions and a larger version. The latter was developed in collaboration with the Eames Office to accommodate today’s body sizes – on average about 10 cm taller than when the original was designed. If you are interested in the original, lower version, please feel free to contact us.
Which version of the Eames Lounge Chair is the classic?
Charles and Ray Eames created a true design icon in 1956 with the Eames Lounge Chair, which is now available in numerous versions. The original model featured palisander veneer, black leather and black side panels. A visually similar yet slightly more affordable option is the cherry wood version.
Where is the Eames Lounge Chair produced?
For more than 60 years, Vitra has been the only authorised manufacturer of the Eames Lounge Chair for Europe and the Middle East. Vitra uses exclusively leather from cattle raised for food production, and the tanning processes meet all environmental standards. With Premium F leather, Vitra also offers a sustainable alternative tanned using olive tree leaves. The veneer wood for the shells comes from certified, high-quality suppliers – with the exception of palisander, which is the only wood not sourced in Europe.
