From theory to practice

The Fritz Hansen armchair The Egg was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the entrance areas of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. This was Jacobsen's chance. Now he could put his theories into practice. The brief was to design the hotel building with all its details and furnishings.  Arne Jacobsen was the first to use a new technique to produce this chair. This consisted of a solid plastic shell with cold foam upholstery.

Material and format

The reclining Egg is 86 cm wide, 79 - 95 cm deep and 104 cm high. The seat height is 37 cm and the armrests are 58 cm high. The armchair consists of a plastic shell with a cold foam layer and a swivel base made of black PVD-coated aluminium and steel. For the cover , you can choose from the following two anniversary variants: 

• Grace leather - Chestnut: a brand new colour with distinctive chestnut brown shimmer, designed exclusively by Sørensen Leather for Fritz Hansen
• Fabric Vanir - Granite Brown: 92% virgin wool, 8% nylon; designed by fashion designer Raf Simons for Kvadrat and exclusively available at Fritz Hansen
