Development
Since the late 1930's, Charles Eames had in mind to create a shell-like chair that would admit of being produced in a series. However, it was not until 1948 that, on the occasion of an exhibition by the Museum of Modern Art, this idea came to be implemented practically: eventually marketed as 'Plastic Side Chair' and 'Armchair', these chairs of fibreglass-reinforced polyester became bestsellers of the American furniture maker Herman Miller.
