Hans J. Wegner – The Undisputed Master of the Chair

Danish architect and furniture designer Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the driving forces behind Danish Modernism. During his impressive career, he designed over 500 chairs, many of which are now regarded as masterpieces of international design. Wegner’s philosophy was based on revealing the inner workings of the furniture and its functional construction to the outside, in order to create a perfect balance between form and function. His 1950 design for the Wishbone Chair is his greatest commercial success and has been in continuous production by Carl Hansen & Søn ever since.
