Elegant craftsmanship: the Pao Glass table lamp from Hay

Due to the semi-transparency of the processed opal glass, this lamp offers an extremely soft and harmonious effect, which can be individually adjusted using the dimming option . The Pao Glass table lamp has a particularly high-quality appearance thanks to the hand-blown lampshade and stand, which seamlessly conceal the light source behind the diffuser. Thanks to its simple yet elegant appearance, the lamp can shine in almost any interior style.
The lampshade and stand are made of mouth-blown, high-gloss opal glass. The diameter is 35cm and the height is 30.5cm. The cable consists of silicone insulation, which is covered with braided fabric. The cable length is 200cm.

Pao lighting collection - appreciating natural beauty

Inspired by traditional nomadic tents during his trip to Mongolia, the established Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa developed a beautifully designed lighting collection called "Pao", as these tents are known in Japanese. They are intended to convey a feeling of familiar home and thus radiate atmospheric warmth and security. This aesthetic is based on everyday objects that already amaze in the natural world.

Designer Naoto Fukasawa

Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi in 1956. He studied design at the Tama Art University. He initially designed microelectronic devices and clocks. He moved to the USA at the end of the 1980s and joined the international design and innovation consultancy IDEO. At this time, Fukasawa mainly designed computers and electronic devices for the then emerging Silicon Valley. After his return to Japan in 1996, he set up the IDEO office in Tokyo until he founded his own studio in 2003.
His original design approach has found international favour. For him, a simple design symbolises the harmonious relationship between user and object. He has received many international awards, e.g. the title of Honourable Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of Arts in 2007.
